Sports Medicine Director's Welcome

As the founding Fellowship Director, I sincerely welcome you and thank you for your interest in our program. We are ACGME accredited for 1 position per year with our first fellow starting in July of 2020. We welcome applicants with a residency in Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine. We are located in the historic sea coast city of Mobile, AL, the home of the original and best Mardi Gras celebration in the country! With a temperate climate and nearby sugary sand beaches, Mobile is perfect for the outdoor enthusiast.

We are centered in an academic university setting, but also have private practice experience built into the curriculum, making us ideal for those applicants looking to pursue Academics or Private Practice for their careers. The fellowship provides extensive sports coverage with the Fellow serving as a Team Physician for the Division 1 University of South Alabama Jaguars, numerous high schools, semi-professional football and a medical advisor for the Division 2 SpringHill College Badgers. They also serve as race directors and help plan the medical management for the Mobile Marathon and the Grandman Triathlon.

With myself serving as the Medical Director of University of South Alabama Comprehensive Concussion Awareness and Treatment program, the Fellows will get plenty of hands on experience with community concussion education, baseline testing and clinic evaluation and follow-up.

We encourage a balanced and active lifestyle with a fun, but comprehensive learning environment. Given the diversity of our curriculum and experiences we go to great lengths to tailor the Fellowship to each Fellow’s interests and career goals.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or our coordinator Stacey Hartman.

Best of luck and I look forward to meeting you all in the future!

Sincerely,

James Toldi, DO, FAAP, CAQSM
