The University of South Alabama Medical Center offers "the highest level of care" to the central Gulf Coast with unique services including Mobile’s only Level I Trauma Center and Regional Burn Center, plus centers of excellence in stroke care and cardiovascular diseases, and a wide range of acute care services. As a teaching and research facility for the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, the USA Medical Center also play a key role in the development of tomorrow’s technology and in the training of tomorrow’s health care professionals.
This 346-bed hospital is a major site for inpatient resident training. It is a regional referral center for South Alabama, Southern Mississippi, and Northwest Florida. Here, residents do the majority of their adult medicine, including Family Medicine Wards, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and ICU training.
University of South Alabama Children's & Women's Hospital is among a handful of freestanding hospitals in the United States dedicated specifically to the health care needs of children and women. Our health care professionals are uniquely qualified and equipped to provide a wide range of therapeutic and surgical services for children and women, be it life-threatening illness, traumatic injury, premature birth or high-risk obstetrical and gynecological needs.
This 220-bed hospital is also a major site for inpatient resident training. It is a regional referral center for children and high-risk pregnancies from South Alabama, Southern Mississippi and Northwest Florida. Here, residents care for children admitted to the Family Medicine service. In addition, Family Medicine residents complete their Pediatric Wards, Pediatric ER, Newborn Nursery and GYN/Obstetrics rotations.
Mitchell Cancer Institute
MCI is the only center in the Gulf Coast area to combine innovative, academic-based cancer research with state-of-the-art cancer treatments. At the heart of this “all in one” approach is a strong spirit of collaboration between clinical care, research and referring physicians. This interdisciplinary cancer team works together to develop treatments to help cancer patients get better and get on with living life.

These initiatives, combined with our commitment to translate these findings into better diagnostic and prevention strategies, enables us to battle cancer on all fronts—from the “bench to bedside.”
