Henry C. "Moon" Mullins , MD

Professor Emeritus

Dr. Mullins was the original chairman and founder of the Department of Family Medicine at the University of South Alabama in 1975.  He is known internationally as an innovator in the fields of Primary Care Informatics, family systems, and instructional technology.   Prior to his involvement in this department, he was a "country doctor" in Fairhope, AL, for 19 years and brought all of that experience into the new field of family practice residency training.  He has been an active leader in many medical societies and associations including the AMA, AAFP, Medical Association of Alabama, STFM, AMIA, and IMIA.

Moon and his wife, Norma, live in Montrose, AL.  Since his retirement, he remains active in medical education and Informatics, traveling to Pennsylvania monthly to work with the Crozer-Keystone Family Health Center.  He also has a clinical faculty appointment at the Allegheny University of Health Sciences in Philadelphia.  He is currently exploring the use of electronic primary care clinical patient records, and the influence of and appropriate role for electronic technology in medical expertise and clinical medical problem solving, and information transfer in primary medical care.
